Le Salon Vert a le plaisir d’accueillir Anne Pantillon, plasticienne chaux-de-fonnière, établie à Lausanne qui présente ses récentes réalisations à l’acrylique, tempera à l’oeuf, ainsi que quelques gravures.

Venue de la musique, par sa famille et par sa formation de violoniste, Anne Pantillon est arrivée aux beaux-arts avec le sentiment qu’un nouvel espace de liberté s’ouvrait à elle. Pour autant, ni la musique ni sa pratique de la danse n’ont disparu. Elles infusent sa peinture à tel point que son travail se construit en écoutant des banques de sons et en peignant au sol avec tout le corps, les bras, les coudes et les mains, dont les mouvements sont structurés par les vibrations sonores. On citera en exemple la série intitulée Oscillography, réalisée en écho aux Sonates et Partitas pour violon solo de Bach. Mais ce sont aussi les bruits de la nature, du vent, de la mer, comme une respiration, qui irriguent sa pratique.

En 2020, en pleine pandémie, l’artiste reprend le pinceau sur toile. Retirée dans son atelier, elle observe le paysage par la fenêtre. De ce confinement, naît la série Intérieur(s) qui renoue avec la figuration et de très grands formats, mêlant nature et architecture dans des espaces recomposés par la pensée et l’imaginaire.

Si les pièces présentées au Salon Vert appartiennent à cette thématique, elles sont toutefois plus tardives. Les premières ont été créées en été 2023, lors d’une résidence à la Fondation Seewald, au Tessin. La situation de cette résidence, dominant le lac Majeur, met en lumière le frémissement particulier de l’eau enchâssée entre les flancs de montagnes abruptes et balayée en permanence par des courants d’air qui irisent sa surface.

Les éléments architecturaux se font plus discrets, ils encadrent ou limitent l’espace naturel. Quelques végétaux apportent des motifs précis en contrepoint aux étendues lacustres. Car le paysage observé sert de point d’appui pour une composition qui s’éloigne du réalisme et s’enrichit de symboles. La matière même de la peinture, tout comme la musique, fait évoluer l’image et la nourrit pour exprimer un ressenti, une idée.

Aux vues estivales du lac Majeur, se sont ajoutées celles du Léman en hiver. Les couleurs sont moins vives et la lumière a changé. Mais ce sont les mêmes vibrations et la même confrontation entre nature et traces de la présence humaine dans le paysage, que transmet l’artiste.

Diplômée de l’ECAL, Anne Pantillon vit et travaille à Lausanne. Elle a exposé à de nombreuses reprises en Suisse et à l’étranger. Une importante monographie parue en novembre 2022 aux éditions 5 Continents retrace ses vingt ans d’activité, avec des textes de Nathalie Chaix, directrice du Musée Jenisch de Vevey, Corinne Currat, conservatrice adjointe à la Fondation de l’Hermitage à Lausanne, Pierre Fankhauser, écrivain et traducteur et David Lemaire, directeur du musée des beaux-arts de La Chaux-de-Fonds.

Le Salon Vert is delighted to welcome Anne Pantillon, a Lausanne-based visual artist from La Chaux-de-Fonds, who is exhibiting her recent acrylic and egg tempera works, as well as a few engravings.

Hailing from a musical background, through her family and her training as a violinist, Anne Pantillon came into the fine arts with a sense that a new area of freedom was opening up for her. That being said, neither music nor dance have disappeared. Indeed, they infuse her painting to such an extent that her work is built by listening to sandbanks and painting on the floor using her whole body – arms, elbows, and hands, whose movements are shaped by the sound vibrations. One such example is the series entitled Oscillography, echoing Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin. But it is also the sounds of nature, of the wind and sea, which – like a breath – inform her practice.

In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, the artist took up painting again. From the confines of her studio, she observed the landscape through the window. This retreat gave rise to the Intérieur(s) series, a return to figurative painting in very large-scale formats, blending nature and architecture in spaces reconstituted by thought and the imagination.

While the pieces shown at Salon Vert certainly fall under this theme, they come later. The first were created in the summer of 2023, during a residency at the Seewald Foundation in Ticino. The location of this residency, overlooking Lake Maggiore, highlights the unique quivering of the water’s surface, surrounded by steep mountainsides, and constantly swept by air currents that make its surface iridescent. The architectural elements are more discreet, framing or delimiting the natural space. A few plants provide specific motifs as a counterpoint to the lacustrian expanses, as the landscape observed serves as the base for a composition that moves away from realism and abounds with symbols. The very material of the painting – like music – helps the image to evolve and cultivates it further, so as to express a feeling, an idea.

Joining the summer views of Lake Maggiore are those of Lake Geneva in winter. While the colours are less vivid, and the light has changed in these works, the artist still conveys the same vibrations and the same confrontation between nature and the traces of human presence in the landscape.

A graduate of the ECAL, Anne Pantillon lives and works in Lausanne. She has exhibited widely in Switzerland and abroad. A major monograph published in November 2022 by 5 Continents Editions retraces her twenty years of work, with essays by Nathalie Chaix, Director of the Musée Jenisch in Vevey; Corinne Currat, Assistant Curator at the Fondation de l'Hermitage in Lausanne; writer and translator, Pierre Fankhauser, as well as David Lemaire, Director of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
